A’Ibom 2023: Group Knocks Senator Albert over attacks on Governor Emmanuel

The member representing Uyo Senatorial District in the National Assembly has been warned by a group under the auspices of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals in an attempt to put an end to what they described as persistent falsehood, blackmail, and inaccurate data presentation by the lawmaker and associates.

In a statement made available to nowupdateonline.com.ng and signed by the chairman of the forum, Mr Jeremiah Edoho, the group noted that the misguided, unfounded allegations, and disparaging remarks being hurled against the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, by the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan was received with great shock.

“We have observed with rude shock, the persistent falsehood, blackmail, inaccurate data presentation, misguided and unfounded allegations, and disparaging remarks being hurled against the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, by the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan. Writing under sundry fake names, nonexistent groups and published on the media by his Personal Assistant on Media, Anny Michaels, Senator Albert constantly misinforms the general public on political issues and governance, with malevolent intent of spiting and ridiculing the Governor before the people of the state.”

” It would have been ignored for lack of credibility, but it appears the industry of politics of insults and biles during election years seems to be assuming skyrocketing proportions, and it is most worrisome, coming from a Senator who has been a major beneficiary of the benevolence of the Government of Akwa Ibom State, for 16 uninterrupted years.”

” Allowing the general public to consume these tissues of lies without challenging its veracity, can lead to the generation of bad blood among the people, therefore creating unnecessary tension that will fight the peace preached and enjoyed across the state since the inception of the Udom Emmanuel led administration.”

“It is worthy to say with a point of emphasis that there is no democracy; even in saner climes that incumbents aren’t interested in who succeeds them”
Mr
“As we have clearly stated, OBA does not have any rationalisation to assume that it is the exclusive rights of his Federal Constituency, Itu/Ibiono, to produce a successor for Governor Emmanuel in 2023. It has been argued in several fora that zoning of Governorship seats began in 1999 under the Peoples Democratic Party leadership, therefore it remains inadmissible to construe that those who served as Governors for few months decades ago, and long before zoning became effective, should be added to the list of those who enjoyed zoning. Etinan Federal Constituency has never produced a Governor in this current dispensation since PDP came into existence in 1998. Neither can the 17 months that Akpan Isemin ruled under NRC from 1992-1993, be classified as a tenure by any justifiable indices. Should this be the case, then how about considering late Navy Captain Edet Akpan Archibong of Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency, who was Governor of old Cross River State in 1984?”

“Like earlier said, Obong Bassey Albert, has been in government, enjoying sundry roles for the past fifteen years, and cannot in any way say that he has been cheated if he fails to be accepted as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2023. Akwa Ibom people would prefer to see answers from Senator Albert on the following:

1. Is Bassey Albert better qualified than Mr Umo Bassey Eno in experience, certification or management of resources for optimal benefits?

2. If Governor Emmanuel’s decision to announce his support for Pastor Umo Eno, was a fiat, why is Pastor Eno still on the streets, consulting and gaining endorsements from major stakeholders of the party, religious leaders when he should be resting at home?

3. Has PDP denied Obong Bassey Albert his right to vie for the position of Governor because he isn’t Governor Emmanuel’s preferred successor or does lack of support from the Governor mean he can’t pursue his political future peacefully?

4. Can Bassey Albert, who first sought to become Governor in 2014 despite knowing it was the turn of Eket Senatorial District, now be the one turning around to preach and profess zoning?

5. Is it not this same Senator, who has made Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency hold sway for three terms on the Senate, at the expense of the other two federal constituencies in Uyo Senatorial District?

6. Can Obong Albert point at one industry or business venture he has established for the youths of Akwa Ibom State, to signpost his capability of creating jobs and wealth if given the confidence of Akwa Ibom people?

7. What is his blueprint for Akwa Ibom State, other than this outright false claims that it is the turn of Eastern Ibibio and Itu / Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency people?”

“There is no justification hurling invectives on the Governor, with inordinate misinformation’ by Senator Bassey Albert through his personal media aide, Anny Michael and his bandwagon of media hirelings. He should be aware that for a man who wants to be Governor, hiding under the cloak to demean the office he seeks to occupy, in no small way, breaches the principle of loyalty.”

“We, therefore, call on Obong Bassey Albert to cage his attack dogs, and as a matter of urgency, stop this mudslinging and endless diatribes which smack irresponsibility, desperation and frustrations. Less he forgets, this is the same Udom Emmanuel he erected billboards all over the state to support.”

“While we respect his office as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East in the national assembly, Bassey Albert should forthwith cease this needless attacks, because Governor Emmanuel carries the mandate and core values of 7.2million Akwa Ibomites.” – part of the statement reads.

Others who were signatories to the statement are Mfon Bassey and Edet Edet, the group’s Secretary and Publicity Secretary respectively.
