Uyo Book Club To Dissect Achebe This Saturday – Keep A Date

As the maiden National Conference of Book Clubs in Nigeria draws nearer, hosts, Uyo Book Club will this Saturday dissect the life and works of one of Africa’s most renowned writers, Chinua Achebe as part of build up to the much anticipated reading fiesta.

The Session on Achebe which will follow a similar festschrift held last month in honour of one of Achebe’s contemporaries, the Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, will feature expert reviews of some of his most accomplished literary works including the masterpiece, Things Fall Apart, among others.

Billed to lead discussions at the session is an Emeritus Professor of Communication Arts, Des Wilson, alongside other respected scholars including current Dean of Arts, Uniuyo, Prof. Joe Ushie, Patron of Uyo Book Club, Dr Ekong Sampson, Founder of thd Book Club, Dr Udeme Nana, Dr Martin Akpan, among others.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s only Nobel Prize Winner, Professor Wole Soyinka has thanked Uyo Book Club for hosting a colloquium last month to mark his 87th birthday. The revered literary icon conveyed his appreciation message through the Secretary General of the Pan-African Writers Association,(PAWA), Dr Wale Okediran after receiving a lowdown of how the Uyo based intellectual community celebrated him in exquisite fashion.

It would be recalled that the fast growing Book Club organized a very well attended colloquium on 31st July to celebrate the 87th birthday of the Nobel Laureate.
The event was attended by eminent scholars including Prof. Effiong Johnson of the University of Uyo and the Vice Chancellor of Topfaith University, Mkpatak, Prof Patrick Ebewo who is an expert on Soyinka’s works.

Uyo Book Club reads ever last Saturday of the month at the William Shakespeare Room, Watbridge Hotels&Suites, Uyo.
