Mr. Udofia spoke to the press on the sidelines of the commissioning of the 10.5km Awa-Nkana road in Etinan Local Government Area, where Governor Udom Emmanuel, assisted by his Rivers State colleague Mr. Nyesom Wike, commissioned the project yesterday.
The Desicon boss said that it was thrilling for him to see Governor Udom Emmanuel going beyond building of roads and other infrastructure, to consciously working hard to attract industries and investments that will create jobs and better the lots of Akwa Ibom people.
He added that his donation of one hundred million Naira for the building of Akwa Ibom State University Teaching Hospital was aimed at furthering his support for education in the state and supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel to fulfill his dream of giving AKSU a befitting medical school in spite of the unfriendly economic conditions in the country.
In his words, “I wish to sincerely congratulate His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, on the occasion of his 6th anniversary in office. I have gone round the state with him today, to Eastern Obolo, for the inauguration of the fertilizer plant, and to Awa for the foundation-laying ceremony of the Akwa Ibom State University’s Teaching Hospital. Now, we are here to commission a road that is over 10 kilometers. It is indeed a long day and I am happy that the day is well spent on people-oriented programmes.
“Well, what thrills me about all this, is the fact that, unlike most Nigerian governors, Udom Emmanuel reaches out to attract quality investments to Akwa Ibom state. These are investments that create jobs and prosper the people, and I am passionate about prosperity of the people, and the best way to engender prosperity is to create jobs and attracting quality investments like Udom Emmanuel is doing”.
Speaking on his donation of N100million Naira for the teaching hospital project, Mr. Udofia added “well, His Excellency openly called me to identify with the project, and I had to give a token to support such a visionary initiative that will give opportunity for our children to study medical sciences, and those already in the field will have opportunities to work in the teaching hospital “, he concluded.
Mr. Akan Udofia, the CEO of Desicon Engineering Limited and renowned philanthropist, has poured encomiums on Governor Udom Emmanuel, for what he described as “commitment to the development and prosperity of Akwa Ibom people.
