COMMUNAL CLASHES: Glory Edet Sues For Peace, Distributes Relief Materials

In a bid to ameliorate the plights of residents of the two communities of Odoro Ikpe and Ibiono Ewuro in Ini LGA, the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, today, Thursday, presented relief materials and cash support to the victims of recent communal clashes in the area.

Two brief presentation ceremonies which took place at the palaces of the village heads of Odoro Ikpe and Ibiono Ewuro, were witnessed by royal fathers, women, youths and elder statesmen drawn from across the two communities and the the Local Government Area at large.



In her remarks, Dr. Edet described as “sad and regrettable” the recently-reported clash between the two communities and charged them to sheath their swords and embrace the peace which is permeating to the entire state from the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Dr. Edet, who is also the Dean, College of Commissioners and Special Advisers, appreciated the intervention of the village heads of the two communities, the youth, elders, and security personnel.
While thanking God that no life was lost to the unfortunate incident, the Honourable Commissioner also regretted the unnecessary destruction of businesses and properties.



In their separate responses, the village heads of Ibiono Ewuro, Eteidung Namyene Udoka and Odoro Ikpe, Eteidung Sunday Akpan, both appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for his good works in the state and for appointment of Ini people in different positions of authority. They thank the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Glory Edet for sparing a thought for their plight by providing succour and relief materials to the victims of the regrettable occurrence and pledged that they will work hard to prevent any future recurrence of such incident.

Others who spoke at the event and expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of Dr. Edet include, the Vice Chairman, Ini Local Government Council, Rt Hon. Marcus Akpan, the Chapter Chairman of PDP Ini LGA, Honourable Emmanuel Umah, the Councillor Ini Ward 1, Author John Moses, the Chairman PDP Ward 1, Mr. Edet David Umoh, the Women Leader of Odoro Ikpe, Obonganwan Nkoyo and Efiok Etim Ibanga, a native of Ibiono Ewuro who spoke on behalf of the victims.

Some of the items presented include bags of rice, beans, garri, cartons of noodles, and financial support.
