The Executive Chairman, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Ekanem Brown and dear wife Mrs. Ima-Abasi Ekanem Brown, have fulfilled their resolve to empower 140 more enterprising women with business support grants courtesy of the pet project of the First Lady, Mboho Uforo Iban Mkpat Enin (MUME).
The event took place on the 16th November 2020 at the council Secretariat to mark the 6th edition of the empowerment exercise and 2nd Batch in Grants.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ima-Abasi Brown applauded the commitment of Dr. Martha Udom Emmanuel towards the growth and welfare of Mkpat Enin women, noting that MUME was born out of following the records she has been able to achieve through her pet project, FEYReP.
“Let me specially thank our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and his dear, Dr Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel for their support towards the success of this empowerment programme from its inception,” she said.
Hon. Ekanem Brown on his part while speaking at the event urged the beneficiaries of the grants to put into good use the funding that MUME has been able to put together to support them, he expressed his joy over the pleasant news from his wife Mrs. Ima-Abasi Ekanem Brown that all the women (about 100 of them) that were empowered few months ago with grants of fifty thousand Naira each actually put the monies to judicious use, and are even ready and happy to pay forward the good gesture done to them by donating for the empowerment of other women in the LGA. This is what I want to hear, and such news is an encouragement to us.
“Let me say it here, The President of Mboho Uforo Iban Mkpat Enin, Mrs. ImaAbasi Brown has a long term vision for the organization so even after I leave office, I will continue to support and empower Mkpat Enin women through this organization”
Mrs. Ekanem who was excited with the good conduct and dedication to business investments by the previous beneficiaries presented wrappers to the earlier beneficiaries and called them MUME(DH) meaning MUME Dakkada Helpers (DH).
“The MUME Dakkada Helpers have distinguished themselves from the crowd by congregating to donate proceeds of their investments to help empower others.
“During the phase 1 grant disbursements women were told that GRANTS are not LOANS as a result you are NOT expected to PAY IT BACK. You are expected to use it and stabilize your business to ensure financial growth for yourself and family because when we individually grow and stablize financially, the entire community prospers but these women chose to pay this good gesture done to them to others in need amongst them. Indeed the dakkada spirit is alive in Mkpat Enin LGA.
“The chairman Hon. Ekanem Brown urged the beneficiaries to put into good use the grant that has been given to them and prayed for God to flourish their businesses”
